Davis Love III began work on renovating Harbour Town Golf Links after the RBC Heritage in 2025.

With the PGA Tour back in town on Hilton Head Island this week, the players will be getting their first glimpse of the restoration of one of Pete Dye’s many masterpieces.

The field is stacked this week in South Carolina for the third Signature Event of the 2026 PGA Tour season.

Davis Love III is a five-time champion at the RBC Heritage, with his victories at Harbour Town accounting for almost 25 per cent of his PGA Tour wins.

He obviously loved playing the golf course, just like almost every currently active PGA Tour player does.

However, Love recently embarked on a mission to renovate Harbour Town Golf Links in order to make it even better, if that is at all possible.

Defending champion Justin Thomas has already given his verdict on the Harbour Town changes instilled by Love, describing them as ‘great’.

However, before embarking on the restoration, Love III received words of warning from many PGA Tour players.

What PGA Tour players told Davis Love III when he began Harbour Town renovation

Harbour Town Links is one of the best designed golf courses on the PGA Tour.

The RBC Heritage is also one of the most popular stops on the schedule among the players.

So with that in mind, it’s fair to assume that many of them would have been wary about potential changes to the golf course.

Davis Love spoke to Golf.com about the renovations and reveals what PGA Tour players told him before he began work on the golf course.

Tour pros didn’t want it to really change, Love explained.

They said, ‘it is great, do not mess it up’.

I’m very excited to be part of the team that renovated this golf course.

Harbour Town Golf Links, you know, everybody associates me with winning here a few times, but I also came here with my dad for the first Heritage when I was a little kid.

It’s almost a second home for me.

Davis Love III on what players are suited to win the RBC Heritage

Love opened up on what makes Harbour Town Golf Links such a great golf course.

The golf course really doesn’t favour anybody, the 62-year-old explained.

I think that’s why people like it, a long-hitter, like me, can win.

Guys with great short games have won here, and ball-strikers.

I think that’s the beauty of the golf course, and of Pete Dye’s design is, you play the golf course, the way he wants you to, and if you hit good golf shots, you’re rewarded, and you can be successful.

That is such a great point from Davis Love III.

Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Matt Fitzpatrick, Jordan Spieth, Jim Furyk and Brand Snedeker have all won the RBC Heritage over the past 16 years on Hilton Head Island.

A nice mix of long-hitters, short-hitters, guys with great short games and pure ball-strikers.

It remains to be seen who reigns supreme this week at the RBC Heritage but one thing’s for sure; it will undoubtedly be a great golf tournament to watch for golf fans, as it always is.
