In football, there are certain moments that you will never forget. One of those experiences was seeing Lionel Messi play for Argentina. We witnessed a small child grow into a worldwide celebrity, a leader, a champion, and ultimately one of the greatest football players in history over the course of more than 20 years. Messi's career in Argentina is now over. As a fan who watches his game, especially the last World Cup, you will be missed.

Lionel Messi Announces Retirement from International Football

Following six World Cup appearances and his historic 2022 World Cup victory, Argentine football legend Lionel Messi has announced his retirement from international football after 21 years of playing for Argentina, ending an incredible career with the national side. In an emotional Instagram post, the 39-year-old acknowledged the decision, stating that he feels the time has come to leave international duty, even if it was terrible. Messi departs Argentina as the country's top scorer with 125 goals, including 21 in the World Cup, and as the record holder for appearances with 207 caps.https://malaysia.news.yahoo.com/lionel-messi-says-hes-retiring-152356688.html

After a temporary retirement in 2016 and tough losses in major finals, he returned to lead Argentina to Copa América victories in 2021 and 2024, as well as the World Cup victory in Qatar. Messi plans to play Major League Soccer at the club level with Inter Miami even though he will no longer represent Argentina. Teammates, the Argentina Football Association, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and other football officials have all paid tribute to him since his retirement, praising his outstanding accomplishments, leadership, and enduring impact on the game. Alongside greats like Pelé and Diego Maradona, Messi departs international football as one of the best players in football history. https://malaysia.news.yahoo.com/lionel-messi-says-hes-retiring-152356688.html

Messi's legacy extends well beyond the medals, records, and individual honors as he closes this incredible chapter with Argentina. His journey has been characterized by tenacity, passion, and an unshakable dedication to his country, from a young child with a dream to a World Cup-winning captain who inspired millions. Even if he is no longer wearing the Argentina jersey, the memories he made will live on in the hearts of generations of supporters who witnessed him transform seemingly impossible situations into ones that will never be forgotten. Even though Messi is no longer a member of Argentina's football team, his name, number, and narrative will always be associated with the country. I'm grateful for the memories, the magic, and the dreams, Leo.
