President Donald Trump’s main legal fund is nearly out of cash and carrying more than $1.9 million in debt, according to a new Federal Election Commission filing.
Save America PAC, the political fundraising organization Trump established in 2020, disclosed the debts in its quarterly report this week. The report covers July 1 to September 30.
The PAC spent more than $5.4 million in the third quarter, bringing its annual spending to over $14 million. Its cash reserves fell from roughly $1.2 million at the beginning of the year to $32,256 by September 30.
Trump has used Save America to cover a large share of his legal expenses, including payments to attorneys who represented him in his New York “hush money” trial, his classified documents case and his Georgia election interference case.
The PAC lists its outstanding debts as legal consulting fees and reimbursements for legal expenses. It owes about $239,000 to Brito PLLC, whose founder, a Florida-based attorney, represented Trump in his defamation lawsuit against ABC News.
Another $761,000 is owed to Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, a white-shoe law firm that has represented Trump in several major cases, including his appeal of the defamation judgment won by E. Jean Carroll.
Dhillon Law Group Inc., meanwhile, is owed about $34,000. The group was created by Harmeet Dhillon, the assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division.
Trump has spent upwards of $100 million on legal expenses since he left office in 2021, The New York Times reported in 2024.
The president has faced a total of four criminal prosecutions over alleged hush money payments, his retention of classified documents and his efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Only the hush money case reached trial, resulting in 34 felony convictions. The other three cases were dismissed.
His legal battles have also included civil fraud proceedings in New York and lawsuits brought by Carroll, a writer, whose jury awards totaled more than $80 million.
Trump has denied wrongdoing on all counts and the product of legal “weaponization.” He has long used “witch hunt” to describe the court cases against him.
In 2023, after being indicte din the hush money case, Trump blasted the prosecution saying; “This is political persecution and election interference at the highest level in history."
