- Readings taken on the Central line, one of the capital's busiest, showed highs of 39.4C.
- Despite the extreme heat, commuters continued to use the Tube, with some noting air conditioning in their offices.
- Air-conditioned lines, such as the Metropolitan and Elizabeth lines, recorded temperatures around 22C, but only 40 per cent of trains currently have air conditioning.
