I paid a visit to my friend’s house, but she had gone out for her Pilates class. Left on my own, I had to figure out dinner by myself. I debated for a while, should I cook something simple or just order takeout? By the time I finally made a decision, it was already past dinner time. So I decided to go with takeout for convenience.
I opened the Shop Food app and started scrolling, unsure of what to eat. As I browsed through the endless options, something finally caught my eye and in that moment, I knew what I wanted. I ordered Japanese food from Sukiyaki. I went for a typical meal: teriyaki chicken rice served with a side of soup. While placing the order, I hesitated about whether or not to add on some chicken kara-age. But then I noticed the surcharge was only around RM3.50, so I figured; why not? I was starving and already looking forward to enjoying a full satisfying meal.
After waiting for about 30 minutes, my food was finally delivered. I rushed to open the takeaway box and was excited to dig in. But to my disappointment, the chicken kara-age I had paid extra for was missing. I was furious and immediately contacted customer service through the app, hoping to get a refund or at least an apology from the restaurant. I even took a photo of the food to prove that the add-on item was not included in my order.
Still feeling hungry and frustrated, I ended up cooking a sunny-side-up egg to eat with my teriyaki chicken rice. It was not what I had hoped for but it was better than nothing. The next day, I checked my phone and expected a reply from customer service. To my dismay, there was no response at all. My complaint had been completely ignored.
It turned out to be one of the most disappointing takeout experiences I have ever had. Not only did I not receive what I paid for but the lack of accountability from the restaurant and the platform left a really bad taste in my mouth.
