White House press secretary Katie Zacharia has been fired after just five days in the role, making her exit the quickest among Donald Trump's press team.
Ms Zacharia discovered her dismissal during an interview with The Wall Street Journal, when she was summoned to meet Vice President JD Vance.
President Donald Trump stated that he advised Ms Zacharia to reconsider her position, telling reporters she did not need the pressure of the role.
The firing follows a disastrous 14-minute debut press briefing and intense scrutiny after she admitted to having never passed the bar exam.
Her departure leaves the crucial White House communications post vacant just three weeks before the upcoming US midterm elections.
