This October, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) continues to shine the spotlight on Frédéric Chopin with a special concert. Considered as one of the greatest Romantic composers in history, the performance is part of a special two-part festival at the iconic Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP), KLCC.

A Magical Evening

The first instalment of the Chopin Festival took place on 16 August 2025, with a concert dedicated to one of the composers’ most beloved works. Under the baton of MPO’s Music Director, Junichi Hirokami, the orchestra delivered a stirring performance of Piano Concerto No.1. Malaysian-born pianist Melody Quah, brought passion and precision to the concerto, leaving the audience absolutely enchanted.

The Brilliance Continues

Music lovers can look forward to the second part of the festival on Saturday, 11 October 2025 at 8pm, promising another unforgettable night of musical brilliance.

This time, the MPO will be led by esteemed conductor Rune Bergmann, as they explore Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.2. Composed in 1829 and premiered in Warsaw a year later, the concerto is a showcase of lyrical beauty and virtuosic flair. Its delicate, improvisational qualities and emotional depth have cemented it as a favourite among classical audiences.

Taking to the stage for this performance is internationally acclaimed Spanish pianist Martín García García. A rising star with a string of accolades, Martín captured global attention during the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, where he earned a special prize for the best concerto performance.

A Night Of Romance

Complementing the Chopin concerto is a stirring selection of works by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. The evening will open with Finlandia, Op.26 — a bold and powerful piece that evokes patriotic pride and resilience, often seen as a musical symbol of Finnish identity.

The programme will conclude with Symphony No.2 in D, Sibelius’ most performed and longest symphony. Composed in 1901, it quickly became a favourite for its sweeping melodies, emotional weight, and monumental orchestration — offering a perfect contrast to the intimacy of Chopin’s work.

Tickets for this special performance are priced from RM229 to RM499. Visit the DFP’s Box-Office for concert information and reservations.
