The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) will present its latest offering, a concert themed Fantasia Across Dreams that celebrates beloved classical masterpieces. Act 1

The concert will open with Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis which combines simplicity, strength, mysticism, serenity and elegiac brooding. It has become one of the composer’s most famous works. The composer himself conducted the London Symphony in the world premiere in 1910 in London.

Moreover, the sweetly flowing themes are the hallmark of Mozart’s compositions including his Horn Concerto No.3 which is next in the programme. It contains a pensive romantic movement with long, spun-out melodic lines that require the utmost in breath control.image is not available

How He Joined

Serenading the rich sonority of the horn in this concert is Grzegorz Curyła, one of the most prominent Polish horn players of his generation. He has performed with renowned orchestras such as the BBC, Berlin and Royal Philharmonics, the London Sinfonietta, the Sydney and Melbourne Symphonies, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. He joined the MPO in 2015 as Section Principal Horn.

After the intermission, the MPO will present Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.1 in G minor, nicknamed Winter Dreams, which guarantees the audience to come away humming its catchy melodies and delightful brilliance.image is not available

Thee Return Of The Russian

As an added treat, Russian maestro Stanislav Kochanovsky returns to weave his magic on the MPO after his last appearance at the DFP podium last year. He is considered as one of the brightest conductors today and has successfully made debut performances with, among others, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Wiener Symphoniker.

With his in-depth knowledge and experience of a wide range of symphonic and operatic repertoire, he is regularly invited by renowned orchestras and opera houses in Italy, London, Rotterdam, Netherlands and Oslo, besides frequent collaborations with the Moscow and St. Petersburg Philharmonic orchestras.image is not available
