Jelly shoes are truly having a moment this summer — from mesh-style jelly flats and jelly flip-flops to see-through jelly shoes. Now, in a rather surprising move, New Balance has hopped on the jelly shoes bandwagon as well.
Known for making high-performance shoes, the American brand has carved a niche for itself in the world of footwear, especially among athletes. Therefore, New Balance venturing into something like jelly shoes is totally unexpected.
The brand, too, recognises the element of surprise. So, fittingly, the shoemaker said, “Let’s do something unhinged.”
All we know about the New Balance jelly shoes

From the initial teaser, the New Balance jelly shoes look like slippers with a small see-through upper. The lime green hue also contributes to its casual aesthetic, and with its sleek and minimal shape, the footwear doesn’t appear to be too bulky either.
This is not the first time that New Balance has stepped outside the bounds of its running heritage. The American brand pioneered the famous ‘snoafer’ movement (a hybrid of sneakers and loafers), and earlier in 2026, came up with the NB 1890A sneakers — a crossover between a moccasin and a running shoe. The jelly shoes are yet another interesting idea that New Balance is exploring.
Investing in a creative team to develop the jelly shoes also seems like a viable option for a brand trying to introduce unconventional silhouettes to its portfolio. The concept of jelly shoes has gained steam of late because of its versatility — you can wear them on the streets or at the beach. Not to mention, they are also waterproof.

Do we have a release date for the New Balance jelly shoes?
While New Balance has announced its decision to launch a pair in 2027, the exact date remains to be confirmed. We expect other details of the footwear, like the material, durability and price, to be revealed in the coming months.
