Sobers was a specialist batsman, specialist bowler and a brilliant fielder. He could even have kept wickets with distinction but his talents were far more valuable in the field.
As a batsman, he scored countless Test centuries for the West Indies.
Sobers was a masterful bowler who could deliver seam, off-spin, leg-spin, googlies and more. He also claimed more than 200 Test wickets.
In the field, Sobers was the supreme athlete. He excelled in the slips, was brilliant at cover and was equally outstanding in the outfield.
He epitomised the ultimate all-rounder in any sport. Despite his natural gifts, he remained humble and down-to-earth, touching the hearts of many and serving as a true ambassador for world cricket.
While representing the West Indies, he helped transform the team into a force to be reckoned with in international cricket.
Sobers was the driving force behind the West Indies’ resurgence and dominance for many years.
