It’s moving day at Royal Birkdale as the contenders assemble for a fascinating third round at The Open.
Friday saw plenty of low scoring and a dollop of controversy, with Australia’s Lucas Herbert and the USA’s Sam Burns, a growing major force, shooting 62s to surge into contention.
Bryson DeChambeau looked perfectly poised, too, only to be hit with a two-stroke penalty after an incident on the fifth – the two-time major winner has confirmed he will play this weekend, though admitted he had been “fired up” by the decision.
He’ll be off alongside Burns in the third from last group, with Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Tommy Fleetwood and Jon Rahm among those right in the mix but needing a strong Saturday to challenge.
