The Pitt warns actors about scam casting calls for season three

Actors beware: There is currently a scam casting call targeting fans of The Pitt.

As the cast of HBO Max’s hit medical drama has returned to Pittsburgh to film season three, some local residents have come across suspicious ads promising the opportunity to appear as background actors in the show, according to a report by CBS Pittsburgh’s KDKA Investigates.

Two residents told the outlet that company Nine9 offered them the chance to work as extras on The Pitt after they came across Instagram ads promoting the casting call. When potential participants joined a group call to learn more information about the opportunity, they were asked to share their credit card information.

However, Movie Casting PGH — the local talent company that exclusively hires background actors for The Pitt in Pittsburgh — says that actors should never have to pay to work as extras.

“We are the only casting for The Pitt in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,” the casting service said in an automated email shared with The Independent. “If you accidentally signed up with Nine9 Casting or Project Casting for The Pitt (they were creating their own ads to lure people in) they are not casting.”

The statement continued: “If they sent you any emails or texts for this specific project, asking you to pay, Zoom or anything, do not reply to those folks!! We do not have any affiliation with them. There may also be other scams out there asking to join the show, do not do it.”

The Independent has reached out to Nine9 and HBO for comment.

Excitement is high around the possibility of being involved in the Emmy-winning series. More than 28,000 people applied to appear in the background of the show after a casting call for extras was posted in September, according to Movie Casting PGH.

“The response has been unlike anything we've seen this quickly, and we are incredibly grateful that so many people want to be part of a production here in Pittsburgh," the casting company said in a statement on Facebook last month. “The Pitt is such a great, popular show - and being based [in] Pittsburgh certainly adds to the excitement. Us Yinzers love seeing our hometown represented on screen!

Set to premiere in January 2027, season three of The Pitt will see Noah Wyle return as lead character Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in addition to his co-writing role.

While a majority of the main cast will reprise their roles, it was announced at the end of season two that senior resident Dr Samira Mohan, played by Supriya Ganesh, will not be in the new episodes.
