Pokémon history has been made. Singapore is getting its biggest Pokémon event yet and the celebrations have already begun. The Pokémon World Championships will be held here for the first time in 2027, bringing the annual tournament, as well as its accompanying fan convention, PokémonXP, to Singapore EXPO and the Singapore Indoor Stadium from 13 to 15 August 2027.
The destination was revealed during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco, as announced by the President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara. It is a significant first for the region: Singapore will become the first Southeast Asian host of Worlds and only the fourth destination outside the United States to stage the competition, following Vancouver, London and Yokohama.
Worlds is essentially the franchise’s biggest competitive event. The best players from around the globe qualify throughout the season before meeting to battle for prize money and the title of Pokémon World Champion. 2026 also marks the end of an era for Pokémon UNITE, as the game progresses to the next stage with the introduction of Pokémon Champions VG.
Pokémon GO Battle will continue to be an even more exciting next year with the introduction of Mega Evolutions in the lineup. Meanwhile, Pokémon TCG will see an even more nail-biting fight to the end as players strategise with new cards and new battle sets.
What can fans expect from PokémonXP?
The competition is not the only part of Worlds coming to Singapore. PokémonXP, the official fan event introduced in San Francisco in 2026, will also be held at Singapore EXPO.
Its inaugural edition featured panels, workshops, special guests, performances, cosplay and exclusive merchandise. However, Pokémon has not yet announced which activities will return for the Singapore edition.
The announcement has been positively received by the Pokémon community and trainers across Asia especially with a solid lineup of events in the region leading up to the event in August 2027. PokéXciting kicks off in Kuala Lumpur on 12-13 September 2026 with the opening of KL’s first Pokémon Center in Ombak KLCC, followed by Taipei (10-11 October 2026), Singapore (7-8 November 2026), Manila (23-24 January 2027) and Bangkok (13-14 February 2027). The Pokémon RUN 30 tour will kick off in Manila (3-4 October 2026), followed by three stops in Taiwan — Taichung (17-18 October 2026), Kaohsiung (31 October – 1 November 2026) and New Taipei (14-15 November 2026). The Singapore edition will be held on 7-8 November 2026, followed by Kuala Lumpur (21-22 November 2026), Jakarta (12-13 December 2026), Bangkok (9-10 January 2027) and Hong Kong (23-24 January 2027). Pokémon Winds and Waves, which is based off Southeast Asia, is also officially scheduled for a worldwide release next year for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The Pokémon 30th Anniversary celebrations are bound to be super exciting. Ticketing and registration details for the Singapore events have also yet to be released. More information is expected closer to the event.
