In modern chess, the traditional barriers to entry have been completely demolished, allowing young prodigies to reach the absolute pinnacle of the sport at ages previously thought impossible. As human resource development (HRD) practitioner, I noticed young minds possess a distinct biological advantage over adult chess grandmasters. Their developing brains are uniquely optimized to absorb complex information and build rapid neural connections. I saw my grandchildren can absorb thousands of chess positions and instantly recognize tactical themes. They often calculate variations with absolute brute-force precision. Because they lack the psychological “scars” of long-career defeats, they play with a relentless lack of fear against seasoned participants.
In conjunction with Malaysia Day celebrations, my 3 primary school grandchildren participated at the D'Pulze Cyberjaya Chess Under 12 tournament, for players born in 2014 or later, which took place on 16 September, at the D'Pulze Shopping Center in Cyberjaya, Selangor, managed by the AMS Brilliant Move Team led by FA Azhar & Muriza. The tournament's pairings, schedules, and standings were managed on Chess-Results (Tournament Database).

As a fan of chess tournament, I found behind almost every young prodigy is an aggressive parental sacrifice and robust school teachers. For example, the Youngest Undisputed World Champion, 18 year-old Gukesh Dommaraju, defeated Ding Liren in December 2024, breaking the 39 year-old Garry Kasparov's record. The World Champion Dommaraju's father paused his medical career entirely to travel with him, from India to the world tournament assembly. The Youngest Grandmaster (GM) in History, 12 year-old Abhimanyu Misha, achieved in 2021 & the Youngest Female GM, 14 year-old Hou Yifan, achieved in 2008. (https://www.megachess.com)

I observed participating in chess competitions offers profound cognitive, psychological, and social benefits for my 3 grandchildren, Ilfi, Fayyadh and Ilyan, transforming a board game into a powerful framework for mental development. Chess tournaments serve as an intense workout for their mental growth.
