Matt Fitzpatrick is now a five-time champion on the PGA Tour after claiming the title at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans with his brother Alex.

The Fitzpatrick brothers clinched a one-shot victory at TPC Louisiana, which has helped Alex Fitzpatrick earn a PGA Tour card through 2028.

Fantastic teamwork was key to the success, along with admirable resilience after the pair lost a four-shot lead on the back nine.

But one-time PGA Tour winner Michael Kim has focused on another, more unique aspect of Matt Fitzpatrick’s game following the win, sharing insight into why he chips cross-handed.

Michael Kim explains why Matt Fitzpatrick chips cross-handed

Kim explained on X: “Wonder why Matt Fitz chips cross-handed?

“It works because it’s easier to keep the hands ahead of the clubhead which makes contact much more consistent.

“Also if your right hand gets too jabby during the downswing, it won’t affect the swing as much as your left hand will act as a natural buffer.

“You shouldn’t hit full swing shots cross-handed though.”

Kim was then asked why he thinks it works for some players and not for others, to which he replied: “It’s just awkward at first and many don’t like how it looks compared to others.

“You have to be ok with people looking at you funny.”

Fitzpatrick is clearly okay with that, with the Englishman currently third in the world rankings behind only Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy thanks to his recent efforts.

On the PGA Tour in 2026, he’s currently ranked 12th for Proximity to Hole and 23rd for scrambling.

Matt Wallace congratulates Matt Fitzpatrick and Alex Fitzpatrick on Zurich Classic win

The Fitzpatrick brothers were not the only English duo to have taken on the event, with Marco Penge and Matt Wallace also teaming up.

They finished in a tie for 30th on 20-under, 11 shots behind the Zurich Classic champions at TPC Louisiana.

Following their partnership, Wallace has taken to social media to share his excitement for his compatriot, as well as sending a message to the winners.

Wallace wrote on X: “This boy is the future. Absolute pleasure to partner [Marco Penge].

“Not having the weekend we wanted stings a little more when you play for someone else too. We’ll be back.

“Congrats to the Fitzs. Amazing watch.”

Penge was quick to reply, saying: “Loved every minute of it! I look forward to getting back at it next year partner.”

Norwegians Kristoffer Reitan and Kris Ventura and Americans Alex Smalley and Hayden Springer finished in a tie for second at the PGA Tour event, while major champions Brooks Koepka and Shane Lowry were among the pairings to have missed the cut.
