The action and decision by the Yang di Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan in refusing to grant a meeting with those politicians who claimed they have the majority support of other assemblymen clearly send a signal and set a precedent to all politicians and wanna be politicians that elections belong to all Malaysians, not political parties.

It is where every eligible Malaysian exercise their fundamental right to determine who will govern them.

Since Feb 2020, the government at both Federal and state level had repeatedly changed hands but not through an election.

That day in Feb 2020, politicians from Bersatu, BN, PAS and those in Sabah and Sarawak failed in their democratic responsibility when they coaesleced together against the will of a majority of Malaysians who rejected them earlier in the 14th General Election, to seize power and govern the country.

The politicians make the political landscape as their personal playground, oblivious to their responsibilities to every Malaysians and the country on that infamous day in Feb 2020.

In fact, the country experienced the most rapid political change we have seen in decades in the last few years.

Ordinary Malaysians are becoming increasingly angry.

Party systems that had long been stable are disintegrating.

A new crop of politics has emerged.

Politicians now believed that they can rule and govern without the mandate of the voters.

The will of the voters is too serious to be misused as a playing field for political games.

For the next or 16th General election, voters should ensure that all politicians, regardless of their political affiliations have one common goal which is to keep multiethnicity and the Malaysian identity in a good balance.

Voters should also insist the politicians they are voting for respectively, set out their plans to confront the country’s many challenges with clear messaging on how they plan to fight corruption and nepotism.

Without a doubt, every Malaysian express the same wishes for the country, which is advancing economic and social prosperity, strengthening the rule of law, and creating a better country for their children.

No more maintaining the status quo for the benefit of the few.

Malaysia must see the end of backward-looking politics, finger-pointing and personal attacks.

This behavior is futile and the consequences are political instability, economic decline, and social decay that drive the exodus from this country, particularly of young people. Reengaging this country’s talented youth and enabling their political participation is essential.

Politicians that wish to be voted into Parliament or the state assembly have to offer more to the young people to keep them in this country.

And any government formed, be it at Federal or at state level, must be based on the will of the voters and not through negotiations and bargaining between political parties or the individual politicians themselves.

The dangerous downward trajectory that started in Feb 2020 must be reversed and the will of the voters have to be respected and transformed into a government voted by the people.

Malaysia must be steered back on the path to prosperity, as its citizens deserve.
