Multiple grocery stores have launched affordable Thanksgiving meals that can feed as many as 10 people for less than $4 each.
National chains Aldi and Lidl, and regional grocers Schnucks, Wegmans and Winn-Dixie, have announced substantial bundles for under $40 while many Americans struggle with the ongoing high cost of living.
The cost is less than half of the $90 spend by the average household on their Thanksgiving meal this year, PWC consumer markets specialist Ali Furman told Good Morning America earlier this month.
The meal deals all feature turkey, sides and dessert. Highlights include a 16-pound frozen turkey from Aldi and a frozen Marie Callender’s pie and whipped topping from Schnucks.
Here are the menu items and cost for the bundles at Aldi, Lidl, Schnucks, Wegmans and Winn-Dixie.
Aldi ($38.74, serves up to 10 people)
- 16-pound whole frozen turkey, stuffing, baby carrots, celery, cranberries, sweet potatoes, Hawaiian sweet rolls, frozen peas, pumpkin pie mix, pie crust, whole milk, heavy whipping cream
- Available November 11 to November 25.
Lidl ($35.86, serves up to 10 people)
- 14-pound whole frozen turkey, pumpkin mix, yellow onions, potatoes, celery, chicken broth, cream of mushroom soup, cut green beans, evaporated milk, sweet potatoes, French fried onions, whipped topping, gravy packets, jellied cranberry sauce, mini marshmallows, Hawaiian sweet rolls, poultry seasoning, stuffing mix, baby carrots, and macaroni and cheese
- Available November 11 to November 25.
Schnucks (Under $40, serves 10 people)
- Whole frozen turkey, potatoes, stuffing mix, celery, gravy packet, mushroom soup, green beans, fried onions, canned corn, sweet potatoes, mini marshmallows, rolls, pie and whipped
- Available November 18 to November 25.
Wegmans: (Under $40, serves 8 people)
- 13-pound frozen turkey, gray packet, stuffing, yellow onions, corn muffin mix, chicken stock dinner rolls, canned corn, jellied cranberry sauce, cut green beans, french fried onions, cream of mushroom soup, potatoes, yams, macaroni and cheese, and pumpkin pie
- Available November 8 to November 22.
Winn-Dixie (Under $40, serves 6 people)
- 10-14 pound frozen turkey, stuffing, gravy mix, cranberry sauce, cut sweet potatoes, green beans, cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup, crispy onions, dinner rolls, pumpkin pie
- Available November 11 to November 25.
Wegmans’ Thanksgiving meal will be available on November 8. Aldi, Lidl and Winn-Dixie’s meals are available on November 11. Schnucks’ meal will be on shelves starting November 18.
The affordable meals come at an opportune time for shoppers, as 60 percent of consumers say they plan to spend less this holiday season than they did last year, according to a survey of 1,004 U.S. consumers published Monday by global research and advisory firm Gartner.
