Man held for punching wife in Tawau

TAWAU: A man was arrested for allegedly punching his wife in a fit of rage after she confronted him for visiting an entertainment centre.

The incident, classified as a domestic violence case, happened at a hotel in Bandar Tawau.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the victim lodged a police report, prompting a team to track down the suspect.

Police opened two investigation papers under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt and Section 18(A) of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.

Further checks revealed that the suspect had a prior criminal record under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

In an unrelated incident, a foreigner was arrested after motorcycle patrol officers found him acting suspiciously in Taman Megah Jaya.

“A knife was discovered on him during a body search and he failed to produce any identification documents,” Jasmin added.

The case is being probed under the Penal Code, the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958 and the Immigration Act.
