The latest Chinese car brand to hit the UK, Lepas, has come up with a novel way to ease new customers into new car ownership – free insurance.
Free car insurance used to be a big thing for new car buyers many years ago, but has been replaced by other popular incentives like zero per cent finance in recent years. Now it’s back, with 30 days’ free cover from Lepas to get you on the road in a new Lepas L8 and have time to sort the best long-term deal for yourself.
On top of the free cover, Lepas is throwing in a free £350 excess voucher to take the sting out of any claim that may occur, while – of course – the brand will also provide a free no-obligation quote to continue the cover with their chosen supplier. The Lepas L8 is still available with a low-rate finance offer, too, with a PCP deal at 1.9 per cent APR and a £500 money-off voucher if you’ve taken a test drive.

Lepas only launched in the UK in August with the mid-sized Lepas L8 plug-in hybrid. This is expected to be joined by the L6, L4 and L2 models soon. The Lepas L8 combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an 18.4kWh battery, and claims up to 56 miles of electric-only range, or up to 745 miles when petrol engine and battery power are combined.
In The Independent review of the L8, we described the car as having loads going for it: space, equipment, electric range, looks and a genuinely posh feel for the money, while its looks are a little bit like a Porsche Cayenne SUV. Two models are available, the £34,900 L8 PHEV Essence or the more generously equipped Elevate model for £37,900.
