Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah contingent’s performance at the recently concluded XXII Selangor 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma) is set to undergo a thorough ‘post-mortem’ process.
Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan said the assessment is aimed to highlight weaknesses and identify areas for improvement.
He emphasised that this evaluation is crucial for streamlining preparations, especially with the next Sukma scheduled to take place in Kelantan in two years time.
Despite falling short of its ambitious target of 40 gold medals this year, he said the achievements still reflect an upward trend compared to past performances.
He expressed optimism that the forthcoming evaluation would facilitate the formulation of effective strategies to bolster Sabah’s performance in the future.
He also highlighted that several sports, including sepak takraw and petanque, not only met their targets but exceeded them, showcasing the talent and determination of Sabah athletes.
“I am proud of our athletes’ commitment. Their determination has led to significant achievements,” he said.
He also expressed his appreciation to the entire Sabah contingent including athletes, management, the State Sports Council and all parties involved in the preparations for Sukma.
