Organised by the city government, the event celebrated Mexico’s rich dance culture and honoured Yolanda Montes, the famed Mexican-American dancer and actress known as Tongolele, who died in February.

Dancers dressed in 1950s-inspired costumes took to the streets to perform a large-scale choreography they had spent several weeks preparing.

The celebration continued both before and after the main performance, as crowds moved to the infectious rhythms of cumbia, salsa and tropical beats.
