Thousands throng KDCA despite hot weather: State-Level Pesta Kaamatan 2023

PENAMPANG: The hot weather did not deter thousands of people from thronging the KDCA, Wednesday, on the final day of the State-level Pesta Kaamatan celebrations.

The food and drink stalls were doing brisk business.

The people also visited the traditional houses where various activities were also held, including traditional food and drinks.

The main events were held inside the KDCA building, including the Unduk Ngadau which was the highlight of the celebrations.

“It was amazing to see everyone celebrating the festival harmoniously. I loved the traditional food and beverages,” she said.

The theme for this year’s celebrations was “Kaamatan Membudayakan Perpaduan” (Kaamatan Enculturates Unity).

“Kaamatan Festival is important not only for the KDMR but also other races. It can bring unity in diversity through participation of the Kaamatan Festival programmes and activities,” said the Penampang Farmers Organisation Chairman, Alban Mansali.

He said unity is important for Sabah to progress.

Stall owners were happy with the turnout as more people means better business. A young Murut dancer attracts the attention of many at KDCA on Tuesday.

“There are so many people here. So, to me it’s good for my business,” said a stall owner.

Another stall operator said he did not mind the hot weather as long as he could earn some profits. Hajiji and pairin trying out the Lansaran at the Murut House.

“It’s like harvesting paddy. You must work under the hot sun. But it is rewarding when you get a bountiful harvest.

The same with my food sales here. It’s been a good harvest for me,” he said. Students of SM La Salle Tanjung Aru performing a dance at the KDCA on Tuesday.
