
Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here Thursday to threatening to cause death to his wife last month.
Sarawakian Stephen Ha, 49, pleaded not guilty to the charge before High Court Senior Assistant Registrar Mohammad Azeem Mohd Ridzo, who sat as a magistrate.
Ha allegedly committed the offence at 7.30pm on Nov 29 in a unit at Beverly Hills Apartment, in Penampang.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Albert Basiri applied for a high bail amount since the alleged victim is the accused’s wife.
Counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, who represented Ha, submitted that the accused is currently unemployed and suffering from high blood pressure.
The court set Jan 17, 2023 for case management and offered Ha bail at RM3,000 bail in one surety.
Meanwhile, a woman was fined RM1,500 or two months’ jail for having gambling paraphernalia.
Nurselina admitted to having lottery tickets and RM35 in cash at 5.30pm on March 10, 2021 outside a coffeeshop in Donggongon town.
She was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act carries a jail term of up to six months, or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.
Unrepresented, Nurselina requested lower fine because she has one child.
