SHAH ALAM, Sept 14 -Twenty-three areas nationwide recorded unhealthy air quality levels this evening, as transboundary haze continues to affect large parts of the country.
According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, Serian IPD and Sri Aman in Sarawak had the highest Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at 182 and 164, respectively, as of 5pm, followed by Selangor’s Johan Setia at 162.
In Selangor, other than Johan Setia, two other areas with unhealthy APIs were Shah Alam (152) and Banting (111).
Other areas with unhealthy API readings were in Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Pahang, Melaka and Perak.
Previously, the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) said the haze in the region will persist.
Meanwhile, the APIMS portal showed that 45 areas had moderate air quality, with none recording a good API reading.
An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and above 300 is hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings at 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
