
TAWAU: Three pet cats in cages were killed in a house fire in Tg Batu Laut Otentik at 5.50pm, Sunday.
It was believed that the owner was unable to save the pets as the fire was raging.
The semi-permanent double storey house was completely destroyed in the fire.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief, Jemishin Ujin said a team of 25 senior officers were deployed to the location after receiving an emergency call at 5.55pm.
Two fire engines along with five utilities, including a forensic team rushed to the location.
He said they carried out extinguishing operations with 300 feet of two streams and three fountains with water obtained from the mosque about 1,200 feet away.
Firemen managed to control the fire at 6.37pm and it was completely extinguished at 8.11pm.
The operation was assisted by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), police, Rela and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).
