Police say a car travelling from Tungku to Lahad Datu lost control, hit an electricity pole and plunged into a ravine, killing three occupants.
LAHAD DATU: Three men were killed after the car they were travelling in is believed to have skidded and crashed into an electricity pole while en route from Tungku to Lahad Datu town at Jalan Hutan Simpan Bagahak.
Lahad Datu police chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said that in the incident at about 8 pm, all three victims were believed to have been thrown from the vehicle.
The victims comprised an unidentified adult male and two males aged 18 and 17.
“All the victims fell onto the road, while the car they were travelling in plunged into a ravine on the left side of the road. Preliminary investigations found that the car was believed to have been travelling from Tungku towards Lahad Datu town before losing control.
“Initial checks at the scene also found tyre marks measuring about 20 metres on the road shoulder, believed to have been left by the car,” he said in a statement here today.
Dzulbaharin said checks by the Fire and Rescue Department inside and around the vehicle, which had plunged into the ravine, found no other victims.
The case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and members of the public with information on the incident are urged to contact traffic investigating officer Inspector Humaidi Harun at 089-881255 or go to the Lahad Datu district police headquarters to assist in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Dzulbaharin advised all road users to exercise caution when driving or riding, comply with traffic regulations and the stipulated speed limits, and avoid overtaking in dangerous areas.
