KUALA LUMPUR – Three former prime ministers are appearing at the Kuala Lumpur Court Complex on Thursday for separate legal proceedings.
Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob are all scheduled to be in court on the same day, drawing attention to their respective cases.
Najib is first scheduled to continue a multi-billion-ringgit civil suit filed by 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) against him and several other defendants at the High Court.
The trial before Judicial Commissioner Mohamad Redzuan Idrus is expected to cover evidence relating to transactions and decisions central to the claim.
In a separate proceeding, Muhyiddin's trial involving seven charges of corruption and money laundering linked to the Jana Wibawa programme continues.
The Bersatu president is facing four charges of using his position to obtain bribes amounting to RM232.5 million for the party, in addition to three money laundering charges involving RM200 million.
The trial involving the former prime minister, who is also the Pagoh MP, is being heard before High Court judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin.
Meanwhile, attention is also focused on Ismail Sabri, who is expected to be brought before the Sessions Court to face charges related to asset declaration.
The 66-year-old Bera MP is expected to face a charge under Section 36(2) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 over allegations that he failed to declare assets as required by the anti-graft agency.
Proceedings against Ismail Sabri had previously been postponed following health issues that saw him admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN), where he underwent a pacemaker implantation procedure.
The case attracted attention after the MACC disclosed the seizure of RM170 million in cash in various currencies, as well as 16 kilogrammes of gold bars estimated to be worth RM7 million.
The seizure was made as part of an investigation that also involved several of Ismail Sabri's former senior officers.
