
Three persons were killed while two others were injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a bus on the outskirts of Jammu city on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
The accident took place near Jagti in Nagrota at around 2.15 am that also damaged the vehicle extensively. The road in the area is dug at many spots due to four laning of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
While two persons died on the spot, another succumbed to injuries in the Government Medical College Jammu. The deceased have been identified as Sikander Saifi, Shakti and Mohit Verma, all residents of Ballabhgarh in Haryana. The two injured have been identified as Deepak Verma and Kuldeep Sharma, who are also residents of Haryana and are undergoing treatment. Five persons were travelling in the car bearing registration number HR29BB 2127.
Family members of the injured as well as deceased persons were informed and a case has been registered. A police official said an investigation has been initiated to know the cause of the accident.
In a statement, Chief Minister’s Office stated that CM Omar Abdullah has expressed grief over the accident. “He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for eternal peace to the departed souls and also wished a speedy recovery to the injured. The Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to ensure the best possible medical treatment for the injured,” the statement read.
