
KOTA MARUDU: A nine-year-old girl died while three people were seriously injured and five others sustained minor injuries when an Isuzu Dmax 4WD vehicle and a three-ton Isuzu lorry collided at Jalan Rakit, near Pitas, on Christmas Day (Monday).
Kota Marudu District Police Chief Supt Zairolnizal Ishak said Rebecca Grace Tintingon, who was the front passenger of the 4WD, died at the emergency unit of Kota Marudu Hospital at 3am on Tuesday (Dec 26).
He said those seriously injured in the 4.45pm incident were Marhadin Tampalai, 43, who is the lorry driver with a broken right thigh, the 4WD driver, Mary Peter, 48, with a broken right thigh and her left hand while a 4WD passenger, Felicia Cheah Noldy, 15, broke her left leg.
Two lorry passengers namely Maznah Awang, 43, and a seven-year-old Muhammad Rezqy Salmid and three 4WD vehicle passengers namely Milkah Noldy, 14, Audry Tia Noldy, 12, and Kathryn Lydia, 14, were slightly injured.

“The driver of the 4WD lost control, went into the opposite lane and crashed onto the front right side of the lorry that was coming from the opposite direction.
“As a result, the 4WD turned and skidded on the left side of the road, while the lorry overturned on the right side of the road.
In TELUPID, a 78-year-old pedestrian succumbed to severe head injuries after being hit by a bus in Kg Bauto, Jalan Telupid-Ranau, at 2.30pm on Friday (Dec 22). The elderly woman was rushed to a Telupid Health Clinic for further treatment before being pronounced dead 7.35pm the same day.
Beluran District Police Chief Supt Kasim Muda said preliminary investigations found that the bus with 26 passengers driven by a 36-year-old man was on its way from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan, when it hit the victim who was crossing the road.
All three cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
In TAWAU, a woman traveling on a motorcycle with her husband and their seven-year-old daughter was killed in a collision with a taxi at Jalan Ranggu Saujana, at 7am, on Christmas Eve, Sunday.
Tawau district police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the victim was 33. Her husband, 45, and daughter received treatment at the Tawau Hospital Emergency Unit.
The 68-year-old taxi driver did not suffer any injuries and was arrested to help in the investigation.
Initial investigation found the taxi driver was heading from Tg Batu to his friend’s house in Ranggu Saujana, while the motorcyclist with his wife and their child was coming from Kg Andrassy.
“The taxi driver saw the motorcycle but thought the distance was still far and continued to turn to an intersection on the right.
Subsequently, the taxi was hit in the front left by the victim’s motorcycle coming from a straight road,” he said.
