Three killed, three injured in Lahad Datu road crash

LAHAD DATU: Three Indonesians – two women aged 36 and 38 and a 41-year-old man – were killed when the Proton Saga BLM they were travelling in skidded and overturned at Batu 18, Jalan Sandau along the Lahad Datu-Sandakan road on Thursday.

District Fire and Rescue Station chief Sumsoa Rashid said the Department received a distress call at 3.05pm and dispatched eight personnel in a fire engine and an emergency rescue vehicle to the site, about 31 kilometres away.

Upon arrival, rescuers found six people — four women and two men — trapped in the overturned car and used special tools to extricate them.

Health Ministry personnel confirmed that three victims had died at the scene, while three others with serious injuries were rushed to hospital for treatment.

The operation concluded at 5.27pm after the area was declared safe and the deceased were handed over to police for further action.
