SEMPORNA: Three lobster sellers at the Semporna Fish Market were fined for RM900 by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) for failing to display price tags for their products.
Semporna KPDN Chief Enforcement Officer, Dr Jong Jee Leong said the fines were issued during an integrated operation conducted with Semporna District Council, Wednesday.
A total of 40 business premises in the Semporna Fish Market were inspected during the operation.
Jong said, the operation was conducted in response to a viral social media post claiming a fraud incident involving Chinese tourists and lobster sellers in this district.
He said preliminary investigations revealed that the incident had actually occurred six months ago and re-shared by a Facebook page on October 21.
“Acting on our (KPDN) concern on the consumers, this operation was conducted, with aims to ensure the consumer rights remain protected as well as to ensure all traders comply with the laws and regulations,” he said, in a statement, Wednesday.
Jong reminded all traders to comply with the law and regulation.
He said, stern action will be taken against any unethical traders.
He also urged the people to become the eyes and ears of KPDN and to report any issues related to pricing irregularities or supply disruptions through official KPDN channels, 1-800-886-800 hotline, the EzADU app, or the e-Aduan portal.
