Penang police detain three Myanmar nationals, including a woman, as accomplices in a murder case while the main suspect remains at large.
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police have arrested three Myanmar nationals to assist in the investigation into the murder of their countryman in Simpang Ampat last Sunday.
Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail stated that the two men and one woman, all in their 30s, were co-workers of the victim, a factory worker in the area.
The suspects were detained yesterday afternoon in Juru, with initial investigations revealing the woman is the girlfriend of the main suspect who is believed to have fled.
Azizee confirmed that efforts to track down the main suspect, whose identity has been established, are ongoing to determine the motive for the murder.
All three suspects, who possess valid work documents, have been remanded for seven days until April 13 to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
Police recovered a knife believed to have been used in the murder about 300 metres from where the body was found.
A post-mortem conducted at Hospital Seberang Jaya confirmed the victim died from multiple stab wounds to the ribs.
The 53-year-old Myanmar man was found dead at about 10.50 pm on Sunday, lying face down by the roadside with stab wounds to the ribs.
