Limbahau assemblyman Datuk Juil Nuatim added the government should consider easing burden of underprivileged students flying to and fro Peninsula to Borneo and vice versa.
"I appeal to the government to make it easier for them to return home especially during the festive season and semester holidays to ease the burden of families," he said, adding that airfares sometimes hit RM1,000.
"It is even better to fly from Kuala Lumpur to Manila," he said during the 2023 Sabah Budget debate at the state assembly, here, today.
He said those with student pass should be given discounts.
"For the sake of our people, and their children who want to go home two or three times a year for celebrations and school holidays, we are doing our best to ask the government to push airlines to consider giving some leeway to students," he said.
