LABUAN: The Hungry Ghost festival which usually falls on the 5th day of the seventh lunar month deemed the “Ghost month” was observed on Aug. 18 this time around.
The mid-point of the month-long affair is considered the climax with most Taoist temples holding rituals which some consider eerie like entertainment performances so spirits that have been allowed to roam the earth briefly can enjoy.
The more superstitious observe taboos like avoiding unnecessary travel, dark places and postponing joyous events.
They offer their prayers in the privacy of their homes or at sites where loved ones had departed like crash sites where there would be placed joss sticks, among others.
