Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Department of Women’s Affairs (JHEWA) will be organising three major programmes throughout November focusing on entrepreneurship, leadership, and legal awareness, involving more than 2,000 women.

JHEWA Director, Haslina Ismail, said the programmes aim to empower women from various backgrounds to become knowledgeable, independent, aware of their legal rights, and active participants in community development.

“The JHEWANITA Entrepreneurship Programme, scheduled for Nov 18, will involve around 500 women participants and will focus on entrepreneurship development through knowledge-sharing sessions, exposure, and interaction with various related agencies.

“In addition, the Sabah Women’s NGO Empowerment Programme, to be held on Nov 20, is expected to gather 1,000 participants from women’s organizations across the state.

This programme emphasizes organizational management training, protocol procedures, and leadership to help women’s NGOs in Sabah become more efficient and competitive.

“Meanwhile, the Legally Aware Women Programme, on Nov 27, will focus on enhancing women’s understanding of legal rights, personal safety, and protection against violence and discrimination,” she said.

She said this during a media interview following a courtesy visit to the Head of State, Tun Musa Aman, and his wife, Toh Puan Faridah Tussin, on Wednesday.

The visit was aimed at sharing updates on the progress of the GLOW at Sabah Programme, an initiative by JHEWA in collaboration with the Sabah Women’s Advisory Council (MPWS), which focuses on developing high-potential women in the fields of education, economy, and leadership.

“Through GLOW at Sabah, we aim to produce Sabah women who are capable of competing at the international level — not only excelling academically and economically, but also possessing leadership qualities.

“Our main focus is to empower women from all walks of life — including single mothers, women from the B40 group, entrepreneurs, and NGO leaders — so that they become more confident, knowledgeable, and capable of being agents of change,” she added.
