KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) is evaluating opportunities to participate in the proposed Salam submarine cable system as it explores options to strengthen connectivity between East and West Malaysia.
TM Group CEO Datuk Amar Huzaimi Md Deris said the group was “very optimistic” about evaluating options to connect East and West Malaysia, with SALAM among the projects it was keen to participate in.
“We are very optimistic in evaluating options of connecting East and West Malaysia. And certainly, Salam is one of the projects that we are very keen to also participate,” he said at TM’s Q2’26 media briefing.
Amar Huzaimi was responding to a question on whether Salam presented an opportunity for TM and whether the group had submitted a draft proposal to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
He did not confirm whether TM had submitted a proposal to MCMC.
The Salam submarine cable system was announced by MCMC last month, with the project aimed at strengthening connectivity between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.
Amar Huzaimi said TM was evaluating options to strengthen connectivity between the two regions as the group continues to expand its connectivity infrastructure.
