BADMINTON icon Datuk Lee Chong Wei has been appointed as Johor's sports ambassador, joining an impressive lineup of elite athletes dedicated to promoting sports and youth development initiatives within the state.
The announcement was made by the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, during a Q&A session with Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) supporters in Johor Bahru yesterday.
According to reports, Tunku Ismail highlighted that his vision extends beyond football, aiming to enhance all sports in Johor.
Chong Wei, celebrated as the "King of Superseries," a three-time Olympic silver medalist, and a four-time All-England champion, will work alongside other sports legends, including former New Zealand All-Blacks player Sonny Bill Williams, former UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, and former Australian footballer Tim Cahill, to advance development programmes in the region.
"My strategy for the youth initiative encompasses not only football but also a variety of sports such as badminton, basketball, boxing, and rugby," Tunku Ismail stated. – March 13, 2025
