Brooks Koepka suffered a mystery hand injury last week at the RBC Canadian Open.

And now fans of Brooks Koepka are concerned that he won’t be fully fit for the US Open at Shinnecock Hills.

The 35-year-old American won the US Open the last time it was held at Shinnecock Hills, way back in 2018.

A lot has happened in Brooks Koepka‘s life since that US Open win. He left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf in 2022 and added a fifth major title to his trophy haul at the PGA Championship in 2023.

Koepka then left LIV Golf to return to the PGA Tour in December 2025, and he is determined to return to the levels that we all know he is capable of.

The five-time major winner has actually shown some really encouraging signs recently.

However, Koepka’s latest hand issue came at a really inopportune time.

What Todd Lewis has heard about Brooks Koepka’s injury before the US Open

So, will Koepka be fit enough to play at Shinnecock Hills this week?

Todd Lewis has the answers. The Golf Channel journalist made an appearance on The 5 Clubs Podcast, and provided an update on Koepka’s hand issue.

Well, he is in town, Lewis said.

So he did make the trip to this part of Long Island, and so he is here to try and play.

From what I understand, he is getting evaluated today, and then there will be some news, likely, later this afternoon, in regards to the health of Brooks Koepka.

He told the media Saturday after his round it’s his left hand, and he said he has numbness. He can’t feel his ring finger and his pinky finger, and obviously, that’s affecting his grip.

Now, that could be from a hand issue, that could be an elbow issue that’s affecting his hand or a neck problem, but they’re trying to figure it out and see if he can gut it out here this week and try to win once again.

Brooks Koepka playing at Shinnecock would be a big risk

Koepka is obviously desperate to play in the US Open at Shinnecock this week.

It is clearly a golf course he loves, and if he has his ‘A’ game, he’s more than capable of winning.

However, if his hand is bothering him at all, the prudent decision will be to withdraw.

By playing in the US Open with an injured hand, Brooks Koepka runs the risk of making the problem even worse.

He surely has to look at the bigger picture here.

The fact that he said he had numbness in his hands last week in Canada was hugely worrying.

Hopefully it’s an issue that can be dealt with quickly, and we see Koepka firing on all cylinders at the US Open this week.
