JOHOR BAHRU: A three-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was believed to have fallen from the fifth floor of a flat in the Bandar Uda Utama area here on Tuesday.
Johor Bahru Utara police chief ACP Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said in the 10.30 am incident, the victim was found lying in the parking area beneath the residential block by members of the public.
He said initial investigations found that the boy was believed to have climbed onto the living room window using a sofa placed nearby.
“Investigations at the scene found that the window was slightly open and unlocked at the time of the incident,” he said in a statement today.
According to him, the victim sustained serious injuries to the face, head and neck, and believed to have suffered internal bleeding, where his condition had been reported to be critical while undergoing treatment at Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
Radin Ramlan said the case is being classified under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 where police are examining the actual cause of the incident and whether there was any element of negligence involving the child’s safety and supervision.
He also advised the public to remain vigilant and pay attention to home safety aspects, especially those with young children, to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
