SEREMBAN: A two-year-old toddler is believed to have died of heat exhaustion after his mother left him in her car before reporting for work on Tuesday morning, The Star reported.

Seremban police chief ACP Azahar Abdul Rahim said police received a call from a member of the public at about 6.15pm regarding a toddler found unconscious in a car.

Preliminary investigations found the mother had forgotten to send her son to a babysitter at around 8am and left him in the vehicle, only realising he was still inside after finishing work at 5pm.

Doctors from Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital who were dispatched to the scene pronounced the child dead.

The remains were sent to Rembau Hospital for a post-mortem, while the 35-year-old mother was detained to assist investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
