SHAH ALAM – Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, popularly known as Tok Mat, has successfully secured the Rantau state seat in the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election.
The BN deputy chairman garnered 19,050 votes, comfortably defeating Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Dr Hakim, who managed to secure 7,032 votes.
Mohamad, is affectionately known as Tok Mat, retained the seat with a commanding majority of 12,018 votes.
Tok Mat is the longest‑serving representative for the Rantau state seat in Negeri Sembilan, having first won it in 2004 and has successfully defended the seat in 2008, 2013, 2018 and 2023.
From 2004 to 2026, that amounts to roughly 22 years as Rantau assemblyman, covering about five to six full terms depending on how partial terms and election cycles are counted.
In the 2023 state election, he won Rantau with 16,957 votes against Perikatan Nasional’s Rozmal Malakan (6,677 votes), securing a 10,280‑vote majority.
He served as the 10th Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan from 2004 to 2018.
Currently, Tok Mat is the Foreign Minister in the Federal Cabinet and Rembau MP since November 2022.
Even while campaigning, he emphasised there would be “no post‑election downtime” because of his ministerial duties.
Among the items on his schedule includes hosting the Malaysia–Cambodia Joint Commission meeting on Aug 4 with Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister, delegating his attendance at an emergency Arab and Muslim nations meeting in Jordan (on Israel’s actions in Al‑Aqsa) to Malaysia’s permanent representative, and receiving the Laos Deputy Prime Minister for bilateral talks next week.
