Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the latest instalment in the long-running franchise is this year’s biggest Hollywood production to screen at the festival.
Crowds gathered outside the Palais des Festivals as Cruise and the cast posed for photographers, briefly halting activity around the red carpet.
While McQuarrie is due to appear in an onstage interview, no press conference was held for the film.
Cruise, who received an honorary Palme d'Or in 2022, has remained a festival favourite.
