Victor Wembanyama is quite the sight to behold.
Standing at 7’4”, the Frenchman is one of the most imposing figures to ever set foot on an NBA court, and has hit the ground running in his NBA career. The 22-year-old is in the running for the MVP award in just his second season as his San Antonio Spurs eye a championship.
Wembanyama is so box-office that, prior to his tournament in San Antonio this week, world number four golfer Tommy Fleetwood had to go to watch him in person. And he gave his honest thoughts on him afterwards.

Tommy Fleetwood says Victor Wembanyama will be an ‘all-time great’
Fleetwood watched the Spurs beat the Chicago Bulls 129-114, as Wembanyama had an out-of-this world statline. The Spurs’ leading man had 41 points and 16 rebounds to lead his team.
It was an MVP-esque showing from Wembanyama, and Fleetwood said what it was like to watch it first-hand. Speaking to reporters before the Valero Texas Open, he said, “First of all, the arena, that’s huge, that place.
“It was great to watch him. I was so excited to watch him in person. Like, I actually love basketball. I was so excited to watch him in person and just watch, it was a great atmosphere.
“He has all the makings of being an all-time great so to get to watch him earlier in his career, that was pretty cool.”
Wembanyama made a fan out of Fleetwood, who saw a future great at full force.
Tommy Fleetwood is in a group chat with NBA superstar
The intersection of professional golf and elite basketball might seem unlikely, but Fleetwood has carved out a unique niche as the NBA’s favourite golfer.
He actually has a friendship with Golden State Warrior Stephen Curry. They are active participants in a golf group chat, after Curry features in a number of PGA Tour pro-ams.
When Fleetwood secured his historic Tour Championship win in late 2025, Curry was among the first to publicly celebrate, jokingly crowning Tommy the MVP of their text thread.
Beyond Curry, LeBron James has emerged as a vocal supporter, often using his massive platform to live-tweet Fleetwood’s Sunday charges. James also posted his support for Fleetwood when he won the Tour Championship.
This trend highlights a growing cultural shift. NBA stars increasingly view golf not just as a hobby, but as a secondary competitive outlet.
And Fleetwood has become the de facto ambassador for these athletes.
