Kota Kinabalu: The proposed modern pig farming project in Tongod is moving forward to strengthen Sabah's food security and livestock industry, according to Agriculture and Food Security Deputy Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin.
Chan said he met with a delegation from sole operator Tongod Farms Sdn Bhd alongside officials from his Ministry, the Finance Ministry, and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) to discuss tax incentives and grants supporting the initiative.
The project, which was approved in 2022 to centralise pig farming in central Tongod for better biosecurity and management, had faced significant delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the African Swine Fever outbreak.
He noted that the original pig farming area concept has now evolved into a modern pig farm, with Tongod Farms partnering strategically with CP Group Malaysia to adopt large-scale, high-technology, fully enclosed farming systems.
Chan added that the Federal Government had previously allocated RM26 million for basic infrastructure works implemented by the Sabah Veterinary Services Department (DVS) to support the long-delayed development.
