KOTA KINABALU: Operations at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) have returned to normal following an incident where a car crashed into the Level 3 departure hall area at Departure Gate 2 on Friday afternoon, said Kota Kinabalu MP Datuk Chan Foong Hin.
In a Facebook post, Chan said KKIA management acted swiftly to clean up the affected area and ensure passenger movement remained uninterrupted.
He confirmed that only the female driver sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Except for one damaged automatic glass door, all other gates remain fully operational, and passengers can proceed with their journeys as usual, he added.
Chan expressed his gratitude to the airport management and staff for their quick and efficient response in handling the situation.
The 4.20pm incident, which went viral on social media, involved a local woman in her 60s who accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal, causing her car to surge forward into the terminal building, city police chief ACP Shahrudin Mat Husain confirmed.
Shahrudin said no members of the public or other individuals were injured, and advised motorists to exercise greater care while driving to prevent similar accidents.
