No film has ever spent so long on a streaming service's list of most-watched content.
The animated musical adventure "KPop Demon Hunters," which launched a year ago, has spent 52 weeks in Netflix's global top ten and accumulated nearly 640 million views in that time.
The fantasy film, produced by Sony Pictures Animation, was released on Netflix on June 20, 2025.
It centres on the K-pop girl group Huntrix (sometimes spelt Huntr/X), a pop superstar trio who secretly protects humanity from demonic forces between their performances.
The film won two Oscars in mid-March, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song ("Golden"), and took home the Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media in early February.
A fan favourite from the film is a large, clumsy blue tiger with bright blue fur, protruding fangs, a tendency to drool and a permanently dopey expression.
"The animated musical film is Netflix’s most-watched title ever, and on track to be its biggest franchise ever," the company said.
On June 20, "KPop Demon Hunters" will officially mark its one-year anniversary with screenings and other events, Netflix said in a statement. Fans will have new opportunities to immerse themselves in the world of Rumi, Mira and Zoey.
Anniversary screenings are planned throughout the week, not only in the US but also in South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Israel, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Austria and Germany.
The song "Golden" from "KPop Demon Hunters" was the official summer hit of 2025 in many countries, spending several weeks at number one in the singles charts.
The animated musical was listed as the most successful film on Netflix's top list for nearly eight months.
The figure given there stands at "only" 325.1 million views, however. In its top lists, Netflix counts only the first 91 days of online streaming. The animated film nevertheless continues to appear in the top ten of the most-streamed (English-language) films every week.
When all viewing figures from the past 52 weeks are added together, the total comes to around 639.3 million views.
