Kota Kinabalu: Several top finishers from last year’s Tropical Rainforest Run will return to Tawau Hills Park on Sunday for the 2026 edition, which also introduces a new 10km category.
They include 2025 Men Open champion Sheron Sariman and third-place finisher Arikchely Ariyl Arikah, while Kona@Lydia Liau A Ken and Mailin Salungin return in the Women Open category after competing in the Women Veteran category last year.
More than 350 runners have registered, including participants from across Malaysia as well as Italy, Kenya, Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia.
The 28km race takes runners along the Mount Lucia trail with an elevation gain of about 1,567 metres, while the new 10km category takes participants through the park to Bombalai Peak at about 543 metres.
State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the run promotes a healthier lifestyle while giving participants an opportunity to appreciate Sabah’s natural resources and the biodiversity of Tawau Hills Park.
