
In Ibiza, when I saw hundreds of topless sunbathers sprawled across – well, as an Indian, it was hard not to be surprised (ok, lets say SHOCKED). Later, it became more and more normal through my years of traveling across Europe and exploring the gorgeous beaches. For Europeans, it’s just another day at the beach. But for many tourists, especially from countries where modesty rules the shoreline, it’s a jaw-dropping cultural shock. Why is it that topless sunbathing is celebrated as a symbol of freedom and body confidence in Europe, yet sparks controversy, judgment, and even outrage elsewhere?
