Tottenham Hotspur have had a difficult season, but they’re wasting no time in putting things in place ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Indeed, Spurs are set to sign Andy Robertson on a free transfer this summer, and now, it looks as though Tottenham have sewn up another freebie.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Marcos Senesi is set to join Tottenham from Bournemouth.
Senesi had been linked to Manchester United, but now, a move to Spurs appears to be in the offing.
The Bournemouth defender has quietly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable centre-backs over the last few years, and his move to North London looks like a smart piece of business on paper.

Marcos Senesi could replace Cristian Romero
Tottenham’s biggest problems this season have often come at the back. Injuries, inconsistency and a lack of leadership – namely from Cristian Romero, have left them vulnerable throughout the campaign. Senesi should help address some of those concerns immediately.
The Argentine defender brings experience, physicality and composure in possession. He is also comfortable when it comes to holding his teammates to account and leading by example.
Remarkably, Senesi may also be one of Tottenham’s more creative players too. The Argentine got five assists last season – for context, Spurs’ top assister last year, Xavi Simons, also notched five assists.
Senesi has already proven he can perform in the Premier League, which removes much of the uncertainty around adaptation that has plagued many of Spurs’ recent recruitment decisions.
His arrival could also have implications for Tottenham’s existing defenders.
Cristian Romero has been strongly linked with a move away from Spurs, and this signing could signal the end of his Tottenham career.
Marcos Senesi could help Tottenham strengthen further
Senesi is a smart signing in the sense that he could also help Tottenham strengthen further.
Indeed, if you do the maths, Senesi is coming in on a free transfer, and that should open up Romero’s departure for, what you would expect to be, a big money fee.
That leaves Spurs in a position to re-invest the Romero fee into other areas of the squad, and that is much-needed after such a dire season.
This could be a very smart piece of business by Spurs.
