A 33-year-old man denies charges of wearing women’s clothing and behaving like a woman at a Terengganu shopping centre last year.

KUALA TERENGGANU: A male sales assistant pleaded not guilty at the Syariah High Court here today to a charge of cross-dressing.

Mohd Lukman Mohamad Aluddin, 33, entered his plea after the charge was read before Judge Hamidi Shafie.

He is accused of wearing women’s clothing and behaving like a woman at the KTCC shopping centre on May 12 last year.

The charge falls under Section 33 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Takzir) Enactment (Terengganu) 2001.

It carries a potential fine of RM1,000 to RM3,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both.

For a repeat offence, the penalties could include six lashes, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, and a fine of up to RM5,000.

The court granted Mohd Lukman bail of RM3,000 with two sureties.

The case has been set for mention on Feb 10.
